Having supported the EBiSC2 project with management, knowledge-sharing, marketing and stakeholder engagement for sustainability, we at ARTTIC Innovation are truly excited to see how smoothly EBiSC has transitioned from initial funding to a self-sustaining entity that continues to support the global research community.<\/p>\n EBiSC offers a renewable source of any cell type for research and therapeutic applications. iPSCs are mature adult cells, generated from tissues of people diagnosed with certain diseases, as well as healthy people. These stem cells have been reprogrammed to make them \u2018pluripotent\u2019, i.e. able to differentiate into any type of cell found in the human body, which can then be used by researchers to carry out experiments. iPSCs are invaluable for scientific studies. They allow researchers to delve into genetic diseases and develop new personalised treatments without the ethical concerns associated with embryonic stem cells.<\/p>\n The EBiSC collection contains over 900 iPSC lines from more than 30 different clinical studies representing diseases and conditions such as Parkinson\u2019s disease, Alzheimer\u2019s disease, Diabetes, Huntington\u2019s disease, Dravet syndrome, Bardet-Biedl syndrome, depression and pain, eye diseases, heart disease and more. Via the open and searchable EBiSC catalogue (https:\/\/ebisc.org\/search?q=<\/a>), researchers can access a wide range of robust, high-quality iPSCs from diverse disease and genetic backgrounds as well as new derived products (https:\/\/ebisc.org\/EBISC-NEUR1<\/a>), along with their relevant datasets.<\/p>\n Archiving iPSCs in EBiSC creates a crucial legacy for researchers across the globe, allowing others to access these cells for their own studies. This enables continuity of research that can lead to medical breakthroughs that might otherwise have been interrupted by the discontinuation of funding.
