the world\u2019s first successful demonstration of a fully integrated industrial power-to-hydrogen-to-power solution, powered entirely by green hydrogen, leading to carbon-neutral electricity production. More than 50 stakeholders from various sectors, including industry, academia, and policymaking, were attending, witnessing this pivotal moment.<\/p>\n<p>Since the project began in 2019, the project partners have worked tirelessly toward this goal. In 2022, an initial series of tests enabled the industrial gas turbine to operate with a 30 percent hydrogen content, mixed with natural gas. Now the power-to-hydrogen-to-power demonstrator has proven that state-of-the-art turbines with dry low emissions technology can be fuelled with up to 100% hydrogen as well as with natural gas and any blends in between.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur multinational teams have demonstrated incredible resilience and dedication, working tirelessly over the last four years to upgrade the plant at the Smurfit Kappa site that can store renewable energy and use it on demand. Together, we have made history by successfully demonstrating an industrial gas turbine powered by 100% green hydrogen. This achievement proves that a fully decarbonized, flexible, and reliable energy industry is not only possible but achievable. It also opens a world of possibilities for the energy industry of the future,\u201d stated Ertan Yilmaz of Siemens Energy, HYFLEXPOWER Coordinator.<\/p>\n<p>Leveraging the potential demonstrated by the HYFLEXPOWER prototype, the goal is now to extend its operation to industrial heat production and additional operational modes.
